Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University Directive No. 2/2020 THE FACULTY OF ARTS OF MASARYK UNIVERSITY DEAN’S AWARD FOR THE POPULARIZATION OF THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES In accordance with § 28, Paragraph 1 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Modification and Amendment of Other Acts (Higher Education Act), as later amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Act”), I issue the following Directive: Section 1 Subject of regulation (1) This directive regulates the conditions and rules for the awarding of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University Dean’s Award for the Popularization of the Humanities and Social Sciences. (2) For the purposes of these directive, a role or function referred to in masculine nouns or pronouns shall be understood as being in the “generic masculine” and can be performed by persons of any gender, i.e.: a) “dean” means a dean of any gender, b) “vice-dean” means a vice-dean of any gender, c) “academic staff member” means a academic staff member of any gender, d) “student” means a student of any gender, e) etc. Section 2 The Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University Dean’s Award for the Popularization of the Humanities and Social Sciences (1) Each academic year, the Dean of the faculty announces a competition for the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University Dean’s Award for the Popularization of the Humanities and Social Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the “Award”). (2) The Award is intended for students and academic staff of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University (hereinafter referred to as the “FF MU”). (3) At the same time as announcing the competition for the Award, the Dean sets a deadline for the acceptance of proposals. (4) Together with the announcement of the competition, the Dean determines the period for which the Award is granted. (5) A proposal is typically submitted by the head of the unit of which the proposed student or employee is a member, but it can also be submitted by any member of the faculty or student body. The proposal must include a proper justification. (6) The Award can be granted to an individual or a collective, to a single applicant or several. The Award need not necessarily be granted. (7) The Dean appoints a committee of at least three members to review individual proposals and make a recommendation to the Dean for granting the Award. (8) Each of the winners will receive a diploma and financial bonus. The amount of the financial bonus will be determined by the Dean at the same time as the competition is announced. Section 3 Proposal for granting the Award (1) The proposal for granting the Award is sent to the Dean’s Secretariat in electronic form by means of a completed form, a template of which is attached as Appendix No. 2 to this Directive. (2) The proposal includes the identification data of the proposed person and a brief description of their professional focus, emphasizing the research area which they have helped popularize. (3) The justification of the proposal shall include: a verbal justification, references to media appearances or other means of popularization that demonstrate the justification for applying for Award. Section 4 Final provisions (1) The financial requirements are governed by the relevant general rules. (2) The Vice-dean for admissions and public relations checks compliance with this directive and interprets it on behalf of the Dean. (3) This directive comes into force upon signature. (4) This directive becomes effective on the date of publication on the public part of the FF MU website.
