| Description | Under the mosaics of the dome of the Baptistery of Naples we find eight characters offering a crown, often interpreted as the apostles due to the analogy withe the decoration of the two baptisteries of Ravenna. Some parallels with the iconography of the plays in the arena and some considerations on the allegorical reading of the baptism as an agonistic competition allow to consider the characters of the baptistery of Naples as images of the competentes. |
