Description The paper deals with the liberation of the South Moravian village of Brumovice in April of 1945 by the Red Army. The military archival material of the Soviet origin was the primary source of the paper. The liberation of Brumovice took place as part of the Bratislava-Brno operation on April 14-16, 1945. The main units involved in the battle of Brumovice included the 41st Guards Tank Brigade of the 7th Mechanized Corps, the 228th Rifle Division of the 49th Rifle Corps of the 53rd Army, and the 10th Guards Riding Division of the 4th Guards Riding Corps of the 1st Guards RidingMechanized Group. There were at least 13 casualties among the Red Army soldiers and several dozens of German soldiers in the fight for the village, over 230 buildings being damaged. The liberation costing the blood of the Soviet soldiers and the local residents brought about a return to the democratic system. The subsequent presence of the Soviet troops and a field airport showed both positive and negative aspects of the temporary coexistence of the Red Army and the local residents.
