Erasmus+ Europe

Erasmus+ ICM

Foreign students from countries outside the European Union can come on exchange study placements to Masaryk University through the Erasmus+ ICM programme (replacing the older Erasmus Mundus programme). Masaryk University provides incoming foreign students with a grant to the value of 800 euro monthly and pays their return travel costs.

Eligible countries: Western Balkans, South and East Mediterranean countries, Africa, Asia, North America, and Latin America. It is absolutely necessary that your university is on the list of partner universities in the current selection process. 

This list is published on the website of the Center for International Cooperation (CZS in Czech) during the period of the selection process (you can find further information about this period on the CZS website in the Deadlines section).

Compatriot communities abroad (for Czech see the tab below)

Programme to support the Czech cultural heritage abroad helps to improve awareness of the Czech cultural heritage, primarily by sending lecturers in the Czech language to universities in foreign countries and sending teachers to compatriot communities abroad and providing studies to compatriots in the Czech Republic.

You can find more information about the program here.

If you would like to study at the Faculty of Arts through this program, you have to apply through the Embassy of the Czech Republic in your country (online application here). If your application is successful, our International Office will contact you.

Only then you should fill in the online application in the ISOIS interface.

Program podpory českého kulturního dědictví v zahraničí (krajané)

Studijní pobyty na veřejných vysokých školách v ČR jsou určeny pro české krajany žijící v zahraničí. Jsou zaměřeny na udržení a rozšíření znalostí českého jazyka a kulturního povědomí. Krajané mohou studovat obory jako český jazyk a literatura, učitelství českého jazyka a literatury, historie, etnologie, dějiny umění, teologie. Jedná se o jednosemestrální či dvousemestrální studium v českém jazyce, uskutečňované obvykle na filozofické fakultě některé z univerzit v ČR. Podmínkou je dobrá znalost českého jazyka a absolvování středoškolského studia. Účastníci musí dovršit 18 let.

Pokud máte zájem studovat na Filozofické fakultě MU přes tento program, pošlete přihlášku na zastupitelský úřad ČR v zemi vašeho pobytu (přihlášku najdete online zde). V případě úspěšného výběrového řízení vás kontaktuje naše Zahraniční oddělení a dá vám další instrukce. 

Až následně byste měli vyplnit přihlášku i v našem systému ISOIS.

Nezapomeňte nahrát všechny potřebné dokumenty (životopis, Learning Agreement, výpis známek - vzory dokumentů najdete zde); katedra, na kterou se hlásíte, podle nich posoudí vaši přihlášku.

Přihlášky můžete podáva do: 15. března 2019 (pro podzimní semestr 2019 nebo pro celoroční výměnu) a 15. srpna 2019 (pro jaro 2020).

Intergovernmental agreements

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic (MEYS) annually offers scholarships to foreign nationals within the framework of intergovernmental exchange programmes arranged with various countries. You can find the list of the eligible countries here. 

Scholarships can only be granted to candidates officially recommended for the award by the appropriate authorities in the eligible countries, mentioned in the list of the eligible countries, which collect the applications, set the closing date for applications and organize the selection procedure.

Who can apply: university/college students or graduates and Ph.D. candidates (exceptionally for university researchers/teachers)

Period of scholarship: usually between 2 and 10 months

Scholarship: CZK 9,000 per month for those who do not hold a Master's degree or equivalent and CZK 9,500 per month for holders of a Master's degree or equivalent.

Deadline: The closing dates for applications are set by the appropriate authorities in the eligible countries; the deadlines differ in individual countries but are usually fixed for the very beginning of the calendar year in order to meet the subsequent schedule of admission procedure.  

If you would like to study at the Faculty of Arts through the Intergovernmental agreements, please fill in the online application in the ISOIS interface. But do so only after your nomination has been confirmed by both countries.

Partner Universities

Aside from contracts with EU universities (through the Erasmus+ scheme), Masaryk University has agreements with many universities all around the world. Additionally, MU works closely with networks of universities such as Australian-European Network or Mid-America Universities International Network. Thanks to those agreements, international students nominated by their home institutions can study one semester or a full year at Masaryk University and pay no tuition fees for studying in the Czech Republic.

If your home institution has an agreement with Masaryk University, contact the exchange coordinator/advisor in the international office of your home university to find out further details about the application process within your university before the nomination is made to MU.

ISEP

Masaryk University is the only university in the Czech Republic that is a member of the ISEP network, which coordinates international exchanges of students from the USA and another 50 countries. If your home university is a member of the ISEP network you can study for a semester or for a whole academic year and not pay any tuition fees at MU (this applies to the ISEP Exchange track).

If you are interested in studying at Masaryk University, you can come either under the ISEP Exchange Track or the ISEP Direct Track (the differences between these schemes are described here).

CEEPUS

The Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEEPUS) allows students from various countries to come to Masaryk University (MU) for short-term excursions (min. 3 days) or long-term exchange study or research placements (min. one semester and max. two semesters). Check out the website ceepus.info and find out if your home university is a CEEPUS partner of Masaryk University. The application is submitted through the CEEPUS website.

Eligible countries: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Kosovo.

If your university is not a CEEPUS partner of MU, you can come through FREEMOVER CEEPUS – if you are interested in this scheme, please contact our International Office here. Faculties will help you to obtain required documents such as the CEEPUS Freemover Letter of Acceptance or Confirmation from the host institution that the student will not pay tuition for studying at Masaryk University.

CESP

The Central European Studies Program (CESP) at Masaryk University is an interdisciplinary program designed for students at the upper Bachelor's degree and Master's degree levels who are seeking a challenging educational experience in the heart of Europe and wish to develop the global perspective they will need in the future.

Courses include studies of the social, economic, political and cultural transformations that have shaped Central Europe and the Czech Republic in particular at the end of the 20th century, and the changes facing Europe in a broader perspective at the beginning of the 21st century. Courses, each of them semester-long, are taught in English.

TESOL

The TESOL Teacher Education program is a one-semester program specially designed for undergraduates, M.A. level students and recent graduates who are interested in gaining valuable experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) in a cross-cultural environment.

This course opens in the spring semester of each academic year only. The purpose of the program is to bring together Czech and English-speaking students in order to foster understanding and broaden both groups' social, academic and professional experience – all of which are a vital part of succeeding in teaching English as a foreign language.

Students who successfully complete the course of study earn the internationally recognized Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). 

This program is administered by the Center for International Cooperation (CZS in Czech).

CELTA course

Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults is a training course provided by Masaryk University CELTA centre CZ025 certified by the University of Cambridge to train teachers of English to speakers of other languages. CELTA is an internationally recognised certification in the field of teaching English and is designed for present and future teachers of English who wish to gain an internationally-acclaimed teaching certificate.

Other possibilities

Faculty of Arts Scholarship (Czech for foreigners)

The Vice Dean of Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University awards six and Department of Czech for Foreigners awards four three-month scholarships, each worth 8,000 CZK per month for studying Czech language, literature and culture. These scholarships always run from October to December of the academic year and are intended for students of foreign universities (Czech studies). Applicants should have a good knowledge of the Czech language in order to be able to follow the lectures and attend seminars conducted in Czech.

In exceptional cases, this scholarship may be awarded to students of other subjects as well (psychology, sociology, English, German and Romance languages and literature, etc.). The awarding of this scholarship is conditional on the applicant’s appropriate agreement with their respective institution beforehand.

Application: A request, along with a brief CV and at least one letter of recommendation from a professor of the Czech language at your home university should be submitted no later than June 30th of the academic year. 

Only then you should fill in the online application in the ISOIS interface.

DAAD

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a very wide range of scholarships and grants for German students, interns and student trainees, (post)graduates, young academics and researchers wishing to obtain further academic and personal qualifications abroad. Successful candidates are thus able to carry out study or research placements at leading foreign host institutions.     Aktion

    Aktion Austria – Czech Republic is a programme of bilateral cooperation in education and science at the tertiary level in all disciplines. For students, the AKTION programme offers a number of scholarships for students, including doctoral candidates. Applicants intending to come to Masaryk University must be citizens of Austria. Scholarships are available in the following areas:

    • Short and long-term scholarships (1 to 9 months) and fellowships for short stays (1 to 3 months), age limit: 19 to 35
    • Scholarships for PhD Networks, age limit: up to 35
    • Scholarships for Tandem Diplomarbeiten, age limit: up to 35

    International Visegrad Fund

    The International Visegrad Fund offers a large number of scholarships open to citizens of V4 countries (Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) and a number of selected non-V4 countries. 

    Eligible countries (apart from V4): Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine.

    Scholarships are designed for students at the Master’s or post-Master’s level and are intended for study or research projects abroad. 

    Duration: 1 to 4 semesters (all applicants must have completed at least four semesters of university at the time of applying).

    In recent years, Masaryk University has hosted several Visegrad scholarship holders and is very open to receiving more in future. Detailed information about the Visegrad Scholarship Programme can be found here.

    The Fulbright Programme is the leading international educational exchange programme sponsored by the US government. The range of different possibilities it offers for study and research placements abroad is immense.     Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship

    The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Programme offers grants for undergraduate students of limited financial means who are US citizens to pursue academic studies abroad. Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process and must use the award to defray eligible study abroad costs. These costs include programme tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfares.

    This congressionally funded programme is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the US Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education through its Southern Regional Centre in Houston, Texas. Interested students can apply by April (for the autumn semester) and October (for the spring semester). For detailed information on the programme, click here.

    GFPS

    The GFPS (Gemeinschaft für studentischen Austausch in Mittel- und Osteuropa) is a student organisation carrying out many activities in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland.     Internships

    Erasmus+ Internship at Masaryk University

    Erasmus+ placements are not dependent on inter-institutional agreements, however, the sending institution must be a holder of the Extended Erasmus University Charter (ECHE). The placements are undertaken based on a Learning Agreement for Traineeship, which needs to be signed and approved by the sending institution and the host institution, i.e. the respective department or faculty of Masaryk University (MU). Practicalities like accommodation, the university student card, etc. are arranged by the International Relations Office of the Faculty of Arts (int@phil.muni.cz)

    International students interested in Erasmus+ placements at MU are encouraged to apply online in the ISOIS interface.     Transcript of Records

    The transcript of records is a document issued by your university that states all the subjects that you have passed during your studies together with the marks you obtained. It should also specify what system does your institution use (if it does not use ECTS, you should attach a conversion table).     Proof of English Language competence

    We accept documents that state that you have at least B2 level according to CEFR. It may be a language certificate, diploma or transcript of records.
