Dear colleagues,
At the beginning of April, I replaced Professor Milan Pol in the leadership of our faculty. He has handed over a faculty that is in excellent shape thanks to his care and his team. It sounds ordinary, but it's a big deal. Many of my predecessors took office in a situation where the faculty's roof was almost falling in on their heads, the budget was haunted by red numbers, and the staffing of many disciplines was in ruins. However, thanks to the dedicated work of every single faculty member, I no longer have to deal with such fatal problems, for which I am very grateful to everyone.
So my plans are simple: to continue what has worked, improve what we have reserves in, and respond promptly to new initiatives. Of course, like each of you, I want us to be an excellent faculty in both the scientific and academic areas. And I will do my best to do that as well. But I would equally like our faculty to be a place where students love to study, academics love to teach and research, and non-academic staff is enthusiastic about contributing to faculty development. All this so that together we can continue to build the Faculty as a space for open discussion and a place where we feel comfortable and safe. Where, in addition to the nerves of exams, the need to publish, apply for grants, and then manage projects, there will be humanity and love of neighbor. In today's turbulent times, we need this more than ever.
