The Department of Archaeology and Museology

The Department of Archaeology and Museology at Masaryk University is one of the most stable institutions of archaeological research and education in Czech Republic. It has been established as early as 1930, and because of the methodological, personal and instrumentation development which took place in the last twenty years, it represents a modern research entity on an international scale. DAM and its research centres perform archaeological, anthropological and palaeoecological field and theoretical research, employ natural sciences and informatics, and participate in cultural and natural heritage protection. It is also a part of the UNESCO Chair worldwide programme.
In the project
Within the project, the institute focuses mainly on the organization of archaeological field research and on processing and evaluation of archaeological data associated with this research. It also organizes documentation and morphometric analysis of ceramic material from the period from the 6th to 8 th century. The institute also conducts research in the field of genetic processing of osteological material.

Department of Anthropology and Human Genetics
Charles University, Prague
The Department of Anthropology and Human Genetics deals with human biological research of current and past populations. A wide range of research topics ranging from retrospective anthropology to research into the variability of today's man are solved within the department.
In the project:
The Department will take care of all the workload projects related to human remains and their archaeological context. The main contribution of department lies in the application of osteological research related to the kinship analysis and identification of family relationships. The department will also research topics related to bioarchaeological research, such as the analysis of paleobiology of the elite during the Early Medieval period used for better framework for paleogenetic studies . The Co-applicant has a long-term experience in bioarcheology, osteology, and taphonomy research as well as in the application of all the necessary techniques. The Co-applicant also plays a role in the research of skeletal samples using invasive paleogenetic techniques. The Co-applicant will provide the necessary help with handling of the skeletons and sampling and it will participate in presenting of results.
