Popis | Two French fabliaux, namely the anonymous Le meunier et les deus clers and Jean Bodel's Gombert et les deus clers, are listed as sources of Boccaccio's short story of Pinuccio and Adriano (Decameron IX, VI), while Chaucer's Reeve's tale is the most relevant analogue. The purpose of this paper is not to investigate how much Boccaccio derives from his sources, but how he innovates the plot structure, which is in its turn connected with the presence/absence of certain details. By stressing on hazard and simmetries instead of dupery and strenght, Boccaccio has to twist the logic of his characters’ reactions in the dark room in which the short story is set in order to make impossible things appear as a result of chance and perfect-timing. Another important innovation is the leading role that Boccaccio reserves to the host's wife, who is able to solve an embarrassing situation with her intuition and speech. |
