Popis | This article focuses on the interaction between popular and elite religious beliefs in the Middle Ages as evidenced by exempla about confession in the Dialogue on Miracles by Caesarius of Heisterbach. This collection of miracles from the 13th century was written on the background of dialogue between the two different cultures: it was written by a monk, representing the scholarly elite, and addressed to the novice, who just came to the monastery and represents popular religious beliefs. The interaction manifests in text through two different discourses, theological and narrative, which represent these different cultures. Dialogue is evident in the text in those places where we can find conflicts, but the text itself neglects these conflicts. Interaction is quite soft, and noticeable pressure on each other is rare. The text of the exempla reflect acculturation, which is slightly changing ideas of both cultures, and thereby causing their rapprochement |
