| Popis | Stamped pottery develops through the La Tene period in several non-neighbouring European regions from Portugal to Hungary. Due to its irregular distribution, it raises the issue of integration scales and the surprisingly diverse unity of the Celtic world. La Tene art is often approached as a single phenomenon through prestigious material, attributing to elites the privilege of maintaining coherence in La Tene visual patterns. The study of stamping as a vehicle for standardised images through the continent allows to approach the (re)production of those codes within regional assemblages. The analysis of the practice of stamping on pottery in temperate Europe and the Iberian Peninsula shows that it develops suddenly at a local scale during the 5th c. BC, and evolves sometimes converging, sometimes diverging in different production areas. Those artistic evolutions seem to be triggered by major social changes, explaining their concurrence throughout the continent. |
