To be radical is a new black: Radicalization of politics in the Czech Republic

Popis | Crises matters in politics. In general, they pose a great challenge for political representatives and one of the outcomes can be disturbances, which may lead to radicalization. During the last decade, politics of Europe faced Great Recession and migration crisis, which met with decline of political trust and weakening of political parties gradually losing the position of the crucial actors of political processes. In general, such crises boost rise of radical political parties. Secondly, (as an effect of rising importance of radical parties), mainstream political parties may react through radicalization its own politics. The paper brings the results of research on the question, whether the politics of mainstream political parties in the Czech Republic have shifted in terms of radicalization. In other words, if the Czech mainstream political parties have got familiar with more radical narratives and policies. The focus is on the potential spatial shift in position of the parties in the political space. Analysed is socio-cultural dimension based on Chapel Hills Expert Surveys data. |
