Popis Emil Nolde - "a, degenerate‘ degenerate "? The symposium “Emil Nolde in his time.” Organized by the Nolde Foundation Seebüll in cooperation with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. In National Socialism ”addresses the life and work of Emil Noldes (1867–1956) in the“ Third Reich ”. His sympathies for National Socialism and anti-Semitism have long been known. Nevertheless, he was rejected by those in power at the time, his work was banned as "degenerate art" and banished from all German museums. After 1945, Nolde became one of the best-known and most sought-after artists in Germany. Legend formation in post-war Germany is also addressed through the revision or publication of the self-biography. Twelve well-known experts, historians and art historians, provenance researchers and publicists examine the fate of Nolde in the "Third Reich" with very different starting points and classify his behavior in current events. The focus is on the importance of the “Degenerate Art” propaganda show and the practices of the Imperial Chamber of Fine Arts, as well as the possibilities of contemporary art trade. Nolde's behavior towards Jewish collectors and his roots in the Nordic homeland are also analyzed.
