Popis | In his poem Don Juan, Byron deconstructs probably every binary opposition or a cultural, conceptual divide or boundary that ever was constructed: be it the male / female divide, heterosexual / homosexual, East / West, Christian / Islamic, civilised / savage, US / Them or the Self and the Other. One of the devices Byron uses for breaking boundaries in the poem is the imagery of food. This paper reads the poem by employing theories of digestion to problematize the distinction between the Self and the Other in the English cantos of Don Juan. |
