Popis The Romantic period witnessed a growing concern for the injustices resulting from secular and religious authorities, often politicizing Christian diabology as a critical response to them. William Blake’s Prophetic Writings particularly articulate this through a re-reading of Christian scripture in a transgressive manner. This paper will focus on selected aspects of the Creation myth presented in Blake’s[First] Book of Urizen, a work that challenges the Christian version of creation in termsof time and flesh, two elements Blake felt, curiously, could escape decay. Lastly, this paper will explore how Blake’s transgressive ideas, in this regard, have influenced various religious and subcultural contexts in our contemporary era.
