Popis This paper discusses the concept of “spaces” from the perspective of the theory of fictional worlds, thus by understanding fictional texts as semiotic objects made of entities with a specific ontological status. These aesthetic artefacts, governed by global regularities of texture, are by their very nature constructed as finite and incomplete – the blank spaces, the gaps in narratives, represent a universal feature that often happens to be concretized by the act of reading. The paper focuses on the phenomenon of the gaps in post-apocalyptic narratives, such as The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and illustrates what happens to these blank spaces if they undergo a process of translation.
