Popis The theme of evil has worried mankind for many centuries, but it was at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries that the question of the existence of evil, its necessity and essence arose especially clearly. Russian Symbolist writers devoted their works to this issue, touching upon the topic of concern in their works. Valery Bryusov was one of the outstanding poets of the Silver Age who devoted their poetic works to this issue. His first collection of poems was devoted to the topic of "metaphysics of evil", he was one of the first to translate the works of "damned poets", which touched on this issue. Many of his poems touch on the most "dark" topics, such as "suicide", "sadism and masochism", "black magic", etc. The poet's love lyrics are closely connected with the problem of the necessity and sweetness of suffering, as well as the relativity and paradox of the evil existing in the world. The heroes of Bryusov's prose works "The Fiery Angel", "The Altar of Victory" go through many trials in search of an answer to the question of the existence and essence of evil. Also, being the editor of collections on the poetry of Latvia, Finland, Armenia, the writer selected and translated many poems reflecting this issue among different peoples in different eras.
