Citace
Popis The paper focused on conflicts in late medieval imperial Italy (Regnum Italiae) and the role of Holy Roman Kings and Emperors in them. After outlining the possibilities and limits of imperial authority in the Apennine Peninsula, several case studies of Italian (long-term) conflicts in which the sovereigns intervened in various ways were presented. All of these interventions always met with failure, pointing to the apparent decline of imperial power in Italy. In line with more recent scholarship, the author proposes to study this trend in the context of the entire Holy Roman Empire, and to understand it more as a structural transformation of imperial authority and its perception beyond the traditional notion of "decay".
