Popis | This presentation focuses on the attitudes and beliefs of a group of Czech and Slovak university students about learning Spanish with native and non-native teachers. Although the native teacher/non-native teacher dichotomy has been a subject of study in foreign language teaching and learning since the 1990s, most research has focused more on teachers' beliefs than on learners' beliefs. Thus, the objectives of this presentation are three: first, to check to what extent the idea that the native speaker is the role model for any language learner still prevails; second, to explore the advantages and disadvantages of learning Spanish with native and non-native teachers from the learners' point of view; third, to reflect on the importance of the collaboration between native and non-native teachers of Spanish. For this purpose, the presentation is structured in three blocks, each one focused on these objectives. The conclusions will show that, for Czech and Slovak learners, there is no supremacy of one type of teacher over another, since they perceive them as complementary models at different moments of the learning process. |
