Popis | The area of the “old” hospital in Topoľčany is part of the monument zone, which was declared by the Regional Monument Offi ce of Nitra in the form of a generally decree. The original hospital complex itself, the so-called Augustine’s Hospital is a national cultural monument. Despite this formal protection, the complex is in inconvenient condition. The poor condition of buildings, public space and greenery aroused interest in this monument complex in the academic community. The interest in its rescue and revitalization motivated us to create an interdisciplinary team from various disciplines and universities and to involve this topic in our scientifi c research work. It is a welcome opportunity to include similar topics in the educational process and thus to introduce students the complexities of preserving and restoring cultural and natural heritage. The professional interest in the fate of the national cultural monument of the “old” hospital in Topoľčany was thus transformed into the KEGA project “Interdisciplinary Approach to the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage - on the example of protection and rehabilitation of a national cultural monument, the area of the “old” hospital in Topoľčany”. The aim of the project was the preparation of materials, identifi cation, evaluation of cultural, historical, technical and natural values and subsequent design of the method of protection and restoration - regeneration and cultivation of the “old” hospital as a whole and its links to the wider city and region. The research of the area was focused on various areas: analysis of construction and technical condition of buildings, dendrological research, geodetic focus on the latest techniques and technologies, monument research with a focus on architectural-historical and art-historical research, urban contexts of the area and its monuments, historical and ethnological context. The individual chapters of this publication present the knowledge gained in these areas and formulate proposals and recommendations for further use of the site in terms of historical and ethnological, in terms of architecture, urban planning, design and landscape architecture. |
