| Popis | Before the Second World War Slovakia was ethnically heterogeneous. For several centuries it included a relatively numerous ethnic group of Ruthenians (Rusyns) as its integral part. However, it was not an autochthonous, but a migration population, which came to Eastern and North-Eastern Slovakia mainly during the so-called Wallachian colonisation. Different social and economic conditions together with certain cultural and partly religious traditions affected many aspects, including reproduction behavior patterns. It was demographic reproduction in Slovakia between two world wars that underwent historically unique changes within demographic transition in Slovakia. There are some indications that these revolutionary changes started with a big delay in the cultural milieu of Ruthenians. The paper aims at describing the Ruthenian population in Slovakia in the interwar years on the basis of available information and analysing the character of Ruthenian reproduction behavior. |
