| Popis | The presence of the Greek national minority in the Czech Republic has its origin in the Greek civil war, which raged in the second half of the 1940s. The end of this civil war caused the involuntary departure of a large number of Greeks to the Soviet Union and other countries in Eastern Europe, including Czechoslovakia, which was reeling in politics after February 1948. However, together with these "Socialist-minded" Greeks came several prisoners of war from the monarchy-supporting Hellenic Army, known at the time as "Monarcho-Fascists". The paper focuses on the efforts of these "Monarcho-Fascists" to get back home to Greece, the decision of the Communist Party of Czech Republic to keep them in Czechoslovakia and the consequences caused by the UN's efforts to resolve this situation. |
