| Popis | This paper will examine the official documents of the city of Prešov in the 18th century, focusing on their role in defining and crossing administrative boundaries. The analysis will focus on documents capturing Prešov's interactions with superior authorities, the cities of Pentapolitana, and other institutions, revealing a complex network of relationships and spheres of influence. The research draws from a spectrum of official documents including official correspondence, ordinances, requests, and minutes. The paper will also consider boundary documents that illustrate the intersection of various administrative levels, while mapping Prešov's communication networks and their impact on city administration. The aim is to provide a comprehensive view of how official documents not only reflected but actively shaped administrative boundaries and spheres of influence in the 18th-century municipal and state administration system. The paper will thus contribute to a deeper understanding of municipal self-government functioning in the context of broader administrative structures of Hungary and the Habsburg Monarchy. The study will highlight the potential of official documents as valuable historical sources that reveal subtle aspects of power relations and administrative practices in the early modern period. The paper will also bring a new perspective on the traditional topic of municipal administration. |
