Popis | This paper explores language attrition among native teachers of Spanish living and working in the Czech Republic. Its objective is to delve into their the personal experiences with potential language attrition processes. Initially, this paper establishes a theoretical framework to review existing research on language attrition. The study’s methodology is then described, involving a questionnaire featuring sociodemographic and experiential questions, completed by 43 Spanish teachers in the Czech Republic to document their language attrition experiences. Subsequently, the paper analyses and discusses the findings, concluding that language attrition is an unavoidable aspect of the migration process. This phenomenon is influenced by factors such as reduced native language input, exposure to the host country’s language, duration of residence abroad, and continuous exposure to learners’ errors and interlanguage in the Czech context. |
