Popis | An important means of government “at a distance” was through embassies. In order for ambassadors to successfully carry out their mission, they had to be equipped with a set of specific documents that were produced in analogous forms by chanceries across Latin Europe. This paper is focused specifically on the ambassadors of the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund (1411–1437) to Italy. Drawing on formularies, imperial registers, and material from Italian archives, the basic types of documents of diplomacy, their features in terms of diplomatics, and their function in political communication will be presented. |
