| Popis | This paper introduces two Mongolian manuscripts dealing with the Mongolian script magic in form of written amulets (alternatively named “booklore talismans”, Tsendina 2020) reflecting Tibetan and Chinese prototypes (in Chinese named fulu or zhuyou; Mong. fuu/wuu and juu; in Tibetan named sa yig, lit. “signature”; Oirat šiyike, or the Mongolian homophonous pronunciation of the Tibetan bza’ yig “eating letters”). The paper will briefly introduce this popular category of the apotropaic magic in the context of its Indian, Tibetan and Chinese sources and the state of research. In the second part, it will analyse the contents and objectives of two exemplary manuscript collections of the written amulets. |
