Popis | In waters, dissolved organic matter (DOM) is ubiquitous mixture of individual organic compounds, and humic substances (HS, about 70 % of DOM) that are products of humification process that forms HS from dead organic matter. In our previous in vitro study, we described the interaction (positive or negative) of various DOM/HS samples with aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR, also known as dioxin receptor). In this paper, we summarize our new findings on interaction of both AhR-active and -inactive DOM/HS with various persistent organic pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls, polychlorinated dioxin and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and their mixtures. Results have shown mostly enhancement or no change of AhR-mediated activity of POPs if co-exposed with DOM/HS. Possible interpretation of the observed results will be discussed.
