Lecture: On Traditional Japanese School Grammar

LECTURE OF PROF. HANADA YASUTOSHI FROM TOKYO INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ON JAPANESE SCHOOL GRAMMAR
The concept of School Grammar in Japan is tightly connected to the notion of “national language” (or kokugo). Its roots can be found in the need of a standardized Japanese language as a subject within a unified curriculum of a modern Japanese school system. The aim of this lecture will be to present the School Grammar, with some remarks on its relationship, similarities and differences with the grammars of Japanese as a second language.
