Dr. Davide Scotto: Medieval Christian Strategies for Converting Muslims (public lecture)

A Christian theologian at the University of Salamanca and a prominent member of the Council of Basel, Juan de Segovia (1393-1458) has recently drawn scholarly attention for his ideas on Islam and against the Crusade, which he disseminated among a few European churchmen after the conquest of Byzantium by the Ottomans. This lecture will discuss Segovia’s theological arguments for the peaceful conversion of Muslims starting from his extensive and unpublished letter addressed to the German Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa in 1454.
