Eva Abelová: Successful Integration? The Story of the Golden Hen with Chickens in Monza

  • 17 October 2024
    7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Hans Belting Library, Veveří 28, Brno

Stories about the meetings of different cultures have permeated history since time immemorial and will probably never cease to be relevant. One such story may be that of an unusual goldsmith's work - a golden hen with chicks preserved in the treasury of the basilica of the northern Italian city of Monza.

In her lecture, Eva Abelová will present this artefact and, using it as an example, try to clarify the question of the meeting of different visual languages in one work. She will also point out the ideological background of its creation, which tells the story of a "barbarian" queen who was aware not only of the power of visual culture but also of the importance of encounters and cultural exchange.

We will meet on Thursday, October 17, at 7 p.m. in the Hans Belting Library in the FF building on Veveří.
