The transformation of historical research on the late Habsburg monarchy or a commented analysis of mainly foreign historiography
Pieter Judson, Jana Osterkamp and Wolfram Siemann have brought a new concept to the interpretation of the history of the Habsburg monarchy in the long 19th century. Their thinking is linked to, or is directly part of, the "revisionist" view of the late Habsburg monarchy, called "Habsburg neu denken". The concept traces the civilizing role that the Habsburg monarchy "endowed" with its reforms, especially to national "societies on the margins of the empire." The concepts of these syntheses were well received abroad, but met with a critical response at home. Why? This question should be answered by the announced lecture, and possibly also by the subsequent discussion.
