Assistant or Assistant Professor

We are looking for an assistant or assistant professor with a focus on Italian linguistics in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Faculty of Arts. For the position of assistant professor, the requirement is a completed PhD (obtained within 5 years) in Italian linguistics or Romance linguistics or General linguistics (the Board will examine the suitability for the position of other areas of linguistic studies); for the position of assistant, the requirement is an ongoing doctoral study in one of the above-mentioned fields at an advanced stage or just before completion of the thesis.
MAIN JOB CONTENT
Education
A 50% work commitment is expected in research activities. It includes:
- Lecturing on Italian linguistics in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.
- Participating in the organisational provision of teaching activity, in cooperation with the guarantors of the programmes.
- If necessary (no more than 2 hours per week), availability to collaborate in practical language courses with seminar activities directly related to the profile (e.g., improvement of oral or written skills).
- Supervising, consulting or reviewing bachelor’s and master’s theses.
- Assistant Professor: participation in state examination committees for bachelor's and master's studies.
Research
A 50% work commitment is expected in research activities. It includes:
- Developing research and publications as well as cooperation on joint research topics within the Department.
- Assistant Professor: publishing in relevant journals in the field indexed in Scopus and WoS databases (Q1-Q2) and openness to joint publications within the department.
- Involvement in the preparation and management of own and joint grant projects.
- Participation in the organisational support of research activities within the Department.
Other
- Participation in ensuring operational and administrative activities related to the academic position according to the instructions of the department head.
- Routine administrative tasks in the administration of own courses, use of e-learning and communication with students via the MU Information System.
- Organising and participating in foreign internships for students and academic staff.
- Participation in the promotion of the field.
WE REQUEST
- Assistant: Master's degree in Italian linguistics, Romance linguistics or General linguistics (or related fields) is a prerequisite; ongoing doctoral studies in the same fields is a prerequisite.
- Assistant Professor: successful completion of a doctoral degree Italian linguistics, Romance linguistics or General linguistics (or related fields) (by 5 years) is a prerequisite.
- Assistant Professor: continuous publications in the required field in peer-reviewed journals indexed in the Scopus or Web of Science databases or other relevant research databases (at least 3 articles in the last 5 years) is a requirement; involvement in international research teams and projects (as a team member or PI) is an advantage.
- A specialisation in Italian linguistics or Romance linguistics or General linguistics is a prerequisite; a broader view of other language areas is an advantage.
Length of experience required
- Experience in the field is not required, but experience in teaching undergraduate students in a university environment is an advantage.
Language skills
- knowledge of Italian language at C2 level or native speaker is a prerequisite
- knowledge of English language at least B2 level is a prerequisite
- knowledge of another Romance language is an advantage

SELECTION PROCESS
Selection criteria:

After submitting of all required documents in the e-application selection steps will take place as follows:

Preselection. The selection board will preliminarily assess the profile and the curriculum vitae of the candidates, paying attention to:
- fulfilment of the requirements (date of completion of the PhD for the Assistant Professor profile; prospective completion for the Assistant profile);
- quality, continuity and coherence of the publications (according to the profile);
- any previous research and teaching experience.

The board will draw up a shortlist of candidates admitted to the next selection stage. Candidates will be notified of the results of the preselection process via email.
- Teaching task. Candidates who have passed the preselection will prepare a short teaching task (30 minutes), based on information that will be communicated at the same time as the communication of successful completion of the preselection.

Interview consisting of:
- Discussion of the teaching task.
- Interview on the candidate's curriculum vitae and expectations regarding the position. The interview can be in person or via videoconference.
