The proposed project (3 years) investigates how the Taiwanese culture verbalizes and conceptualizes an event of death from a cultural-cognitive linguistics point of view, using a corpus-based methodology. The project is based on unique sources of linguistic data that allows representative and authoritative sampling in contemporary Taiwan—The official online condolence-requesting system for public funerals operated by the Taipei City Government, official eulogies published by the Presidential Office of Taiwan, and self-introductions by Taiwanese funeral organizers.
