The main purpose of the project is to verify and use the biological diversity of parasites like an indicator of environmental pollution. A detail research and analysis of communities of metazoan parasites of fish (on the level of infracommunity and compo nent community) originating from two localities differing in the level of industrial pollution will be performed. Two approaches will be used to quantify the level of environmental pollution: first, accumulation of heavy metals (mercury) in tissue of the host fish and, supporting ichthyological and hydrobiological research (also on the community level) will be organised. The current and novel methods of mathematical statistics (e.g. Markov chains, species-abundance models) will be applied for analysis t he relationships and correlation's among all results and data (parasitology, ichthyology including chemical analysis and hydrobiology). The best combination of parameters and methods for data analysis in environmental parasitology will be proposed.
