Description The author of the present study deals with the problem of the evolutionary paradigm of Russian literature in the context of East Slavonic, general Slavonic, European, and world literatures. He stresses the conception of the theory of literary history as originally put forvard by René Wellek in the 1930s and analyzes the specific features of Slavonic literatures in the framework of the world evolutionary pradigm. Here he goes back to his own notion „pre-post effect/paradox“ arguing with some other conceptions of the so-called belatedness of Russian literature (V. Kozhinov and others) accentuating the gradual and broken development in comparison with the two other East-European literatures and the whole of Central Europe. He then returns to the roots of the specific features of Russian culture in general going back to the peculiarities of the Russian history and religion in dualities, antinomies demonstrating, for example, the problem of „the passing and the event“. Speaking about the contemporary situation after the big bang of the 1980s-1990s, he shows that Russian literature – though it modified its original shape – still preserved the elementary attributes of its former existence.
