Description There is presented the procedure of evaluation of competences of career guidance practitioners in the paper. The procedure was created in the scope of the international project IMPROVE. The basic evaluation tool was standardized dialogue, the aim of which was to find out the level of competences of volunteers providing services of career guidance not regarding their previous formal education. From the Czech Republic took part 21 volunteers (four of whom were educational counsellors) in this evaluation. They provide services of career guidance in different systems of guidance services in the Czech Republic (services in the scope of the public, non-profitable and private sectors). Complexity of standardized dialogue revealed limits of dialogue as the only evaluation method of competences of educational counsellors and limits of multitrack system of services of career guidance in the Czech Republic.
