Description | Private letters belong to texts most interesting from the linguistic point of view, one of their very interesting features being a high concentration of marked vocabulary (bookish, nonstandard, emotional, occasional items). The book presents a dictionary of marked vocabulary gathered from the correspondence of young people at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The basis of this dictionary is a selection of letters from the corpus of correspondence written by hand (KSK-dopisy), which is a part of the Czech National Corpus. As this is a pioneering work in the context of Czech linguistics, focused on lexicographical processing of correspondence, the work is intended especially as a theoretical and methodological probe that might become a starting point for future lexicographical reflection of this material, so attractive from the linguistic point of view. Marked items include also obsolete expressions and expressions becoming obsolete, expressions linked with a certain period and expressions specific from the viewpoint of frequency. As far as markedness in general is concerned, the work follows the Czech/Czechoslovak linguistic tradition, the works dealing with present-day situation of Czech as far as its varieties, and functions in communication are concerned and last but not least monolingual dictionaries of present-day Czech. However, using the material examined, characteristics occurring in the dictionaries are in many cases revised and modified in accordance with present-day usage. |
