Description This paper analyzes phonology of zero case markers in Czech within a goverment-based framework. I argue that the different behaviour of consonant-liquid stems before Nsg and Gpl zeros – there are no syllabic consonants in Gpl – follows from the fact that they have a different lexical representation: while the Nsg zero is literally nothing, the Gpl marker is a floating vowel. The case markers at hand are analyzed from the synchronic and diachronic point of view as well.
