Description | The aim of my paper is to show although vowel length is phonemic in Czech, it is not distributed freely throughout the whole language. Following Scheer (2001, 2003) I argue that in some morphosyntactic contexts restrictions on vowel length are found that can be analyzed in terms of a templatic activity. I focus on distribution of vowel length in masculine diminutives and I claim that it is controlled by the template which counts heavy syllables. |
