Description The publication results from an international cooperation of researchers from the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Serbia. It describes the agrarian phenomena that contributed to the formation of traditional folk culture of many countries and thus helped create the identity of the European continent. Especially in Central Europe and the Balkans peasant and pastoral traditions were of long-term stable position and had socially a legislative character as well; the erosion of the system and modernization of life begun only with the advent of industrial civilization with the extinction of traditional forms. Intergenerational transmission and handicrafts have been replaced by other communication media, machine mechanization and the use of new energy sources. Ethnological texts by five authors from these five countries shed light on the subject thanks to the specific historical material or to recent evidence from field research.
