Description Paper discuss the issue of communication skills of persons with disabilities who are living in social care facilities in Czech Republic. For individuals with more serious forms of disability, especially intellectual and multiple disabilities, can be in terms of speech therapy diagnose symptomatic speech. The paper analyzes the status of the speech intervention in social care services – residential type, and presents data obtained from the quantitative survey, the dominant research method consists of a questionnaire of our own design. On the quantitative research also follows the partial qualitative research methods based on semi-structured interview. The results bring new insights on the approach to the development of pragmatic communication skills of persons with symptomatic speech disorder, which is often in speech theory and practice neglected, and also present study based on the current conception of speech therapy geared to persons at all ages with various types and forms of disability. This paper is focused on the analysis of development of the social use of communication skills and strengthening the focus of social service users.
