| Description | The means of Czech sentence negation have changed during centuries of the language development, as it is obvious when Old Czech and contemporary Czech are contrasted. Translations of the Bible are present in every period of Czech, and have a strong tradition, therefore they represent a valuable source for researching the same text changing through centuries. The material for this research contains translations from a period of Czech language since the beginning of the 15th century up to the baroque period. Older translations show settling of the means of the negative concord (e.g. žádný contrasted to older každý), since the 16th century the material documents the development of the conjunction ani(ž) followed by a non-negative verb form and gradual weakening of this rule. |
