Description | The period between 1946 and 1948 brought up the issue of the freedom of art in Czech philosophy. A number of avant-garde scholars believed that the social changes after WWII created the conditions for the liberation of man in free society and for the freedom of art. At the same time, information from Soviet Union stimulated fear of the infringement of artistic and civil liberties. In 1947, Czech society celebrated an anniversary of F. X. Šalda, a key figure of Czech literature and literary criticism. This became an opportunity to pause on Šalda conception of the freedom of art. |
