Description | The chapter presents main issues which are necessary to deal with during implementation of educational activities within a multi-user virtual environment (MUVE). The first area highlighted is the core essence of a new paradigm of teaching and learning, which correlates with the theory of constructivism and the Social- and cognitive-connectedness schemata (SCCS) proposed by Sontag. Secondly, the author discusses the essential aspects of MUVE, which enhance communication and collaboration activities. Next, the chapter provides an overview of the instructional design of 3D learning experience (3DLE) by Kapp and O`Driscol. Finally, the author introduces the project VIAKISK (Virtual academic campus of library and information studies) that was situated in virtual world Second Life and then moved to Open Simulator. The author describes the process of moving virtual island into another destination and discusses implications of this process. |
