Description The text is dealing with the problem of value as one of the aspects of a treasure. It compares the definition of treasure in Roman law and modern codifications (Austrian Civil Code 1811, Draft of Czechoslovak Civil Codes 1931 and 1937, Czech Civil Code 89/2012 Sb.). Whereas the value of a treasure was connected with value of the precious metal in Roma law, modern codifications emphasize artistic and especially archaeological value of treasure. As a result, the provisions regulating treasure are also applied on archaeological discoveries and meteors. This conception caused gradually the institute of finding a treasure to cease to exist as a special mode of acquiring ownership in law of the Czech Republic.
