Description In recent years, digital media permeate the everyday lives of a majority of people living in economically advanced countries. Digital media or information and communication technologies (ICT) are becoming one of the fundamental drivers of change in the society and economy. The current generation of young people is growing up in an environment where digital technologies are commonly available and young people regard their use as a natural part of their lives. This is one of the defining features differentiating them from previous generations which encountered digital media only later in their lives. This is why today's young generation is referred to as the "digital youth" or the "net generation". Research based on the learning lives concept can help us understand better not only lives and learning of contemporary youth living in a "digital era" but its results may provide a basis for debates of lifelong learning or life-deep or life-wide learning. Thanks to the complex view of the issues of learning and literacy, findings of this research may be a significant contribution to both theoretical knowledge (for instance in socio-cultural learning theory) and methodology of research in this domain (research strategies as well as specific research methods and techniques).
