Description In the environment of Brno there are many painterly, sculptural and handcrafted artefacts preserved documenting the richness of life of the artists and craftsmen, but also of their customers in the past. When trying to introduce the medieval art-production in Brno environment we realize it had two peaks. The first boom is connected with the epoch of the Moravian margraves of the Luxembourg family, the second rise occured under the reign of Matias Corvin and Vladislav Jagiello. For the older period are the prelates and members of the reigning family as typical customers characteristic, the next period was dominated by wealthy burghers and humanistic oriented intelectuals. The pieces of fine art documented in Brno from the 13th to the beginning of the 16th century illustrate the importance of the city as one of the crucial cultural, political and religious hearts of the Central Europe, whose artistic and intelectual environment was formed by mutual influence of the local tradition and international tendencies comming from the then most important artistic regions, namely Paris, German Rhineland, northern Italy and the Netherlands.
