Description This study attempts to bring two contemporary French authors to Czech reader with reflecting their specific poetics representing two different poles of contemporary French novel. Jean Rouaud in his autobiographical novels returns to its roots and creates a model situation, typical of any family marked by both wars in 20th century. François Bon focuses on the last phase of the transition from industrial to post-industrial society. Each of the authors has a different perspective and a different target, but the message is the same: we got to the stage where our many social and cultural process makes you stop and look back to the immediate past to understand the present. As an umbrella term here served the term "modernity" as it sees sociology in its various stages of development.
