| Description | Since the time of its first steps, Professor Timothy Williamson (Wykeham Professor of Logic, University of Oxford) has been one of the fiercest critics of experimental philosophy (x-phi). The audience at his autumn lectures in Trnava could see for themselves that Professor Williamson is not satisfied with numerous and elaborate responses of experimental philosophers to his criticism and that his discontent with this movement persists. Professor Williamson argued there that x-phi is not able to contribute to the solution of philosophical questions. I would like to doubt this claim and my presentation should be seen mainly as a rehabilitation of unfortunate influences of so-called staircase effect - the term coined by Professor Josef Krob to describe the frustrating situation when the best responses come to the person when he is on his way from the lecturing hall. |
