Description Social relationships are one of the key aspects of the period of life, which is known as emerging adulthood. Making, maintaining or losing friends is related with the use of self-regulatory mechanisms in the social field. In our study (N = 110, 19-27 years, mean age 21.5 years, 82% of sample were students in social disciplines), we focused on domain specific - social - self-regulation among university students, based on a Baltes' theoretical model SOC: elective selection (making friends), loss based selection (replacement of old friendship), optimization (improving the quality of the relationship) and compensation (maintaining the relationship). We used a Questionnaire of Social Selection, Optimization, and Compensation (SOC Social; Geldholf, Little, Hawley, 2012), Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES, Rosenberg, 1965) and the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES; Křivohlavý, Schwarzer, Jerusalem, 1993). Only the elective selection revealed a significant relationship with self-esteem and self-efficacy, respondents' age was associated except elective selection also with optimization.
