Description The Lotus Sutra, as one of the most favourite and widespread texts in the Buddhist tradition of East Asia, gained unprecedent popularity also in Japan. Since the introduction of Buddhism into Japan until the modern times, the Lotus Sutra is considered an important text with significant influence onto not only religious but cultural life in Japan as well. This presentation aims at introducing the Sutra and its employment in Japan by illustrating its doctrinal and artistic aspects. The objective is therefore to concentrate on the specific usage of this universal text in the Japanese context.
