Description Aim of this contribution was 1) to show some National houses from territory od former Austro-Hungarian Empire (mainly from the Czech Lands) and present them as a specific building types; 2) to show how National Houses were treated in 20th century. 19th century was nationally charged times, but 20th century overcome it strongly. Frictions and rivalry between nations were replaced by hate and humiliation and so the destinies of National Houses in new Europe were unhappy. First it was the German Nazis and Italian fascist who wanted to destroy symbols of hostile nations (in Terst or Bautzen), then Communists did they part (on many of the German Houses in the Czech Lands). So this contribution showed how some nationally orientated 19th century architecture was treated in 20th century and how its memory was damned.
